ABOUT GHP
GHP is more than Japanese-inspired Christian apparel. It is a project born from a love for Christ, a love for Japan, and a desire to see the Gospel known more widely.
WHY GHP EXISTS
We weren't setting out to create a brand.
We had been seeing a lot of Christian clothing and a lot of Japanese-inspired clothing on Instagram. We loved Christian apparel, and we've loved Japan for years, so we started looking for something that combined both in a way that felt awesome, intentional, and tasteful.
We were surprised by how little we could find.
Over the next few days, we kept envisioning a design of the crucifixion with Scripture written in Japanese around it. Eventually, we decided to stop wondering whether we could make something like that and just try.
At that point, we weren't trying to start a business. We were making a shirt for ourselves. But we began to wonder if other people might want this too if they knew it existed.
That was when the idea of GHP started to become something more than a shirt.
We spent hours working through Japanese Scripture, adjusting kanji and kana, refining layouts, considering colors, and trying to make every detail both beautiful and faithful to what the Scripture actually says. We had saved a version of the first design labeled "FINAL" to our computer six different times.
And even now, we could be wrong. Maybe there aren't many people looking for Christian clothing inspired by Japan.
But whether GHP eventually reaches one person or one million, we can say this much:
We are able to look at what we made and know that our whole hearts were in it.
From the beginning, that has been part of what GHP is about. Every design should point to Christ, carry its message with care, and help create opportunities for someone to encounter the Gospel.
WHY "GLORY HONOR PRAISE"
The original name for this brand wasn't actually GHP, it was MICHI. MICHI comes from 道, the word used in John 14 when Jesus says, “I am the Way."
We thought we were 2 days away from launching the coming-soon page. God had other plans. We discovered a trademark conflict; long story short: MICHI had to go.
We tried finding a replacement but couldn't find anything that felt right. We stopped searching on our own and just trusted God.
For years we have ended our prayers with "To You be all glory, honor, and praise."
When we learned 誉 bearing those same meanings, it was so clear. It was far better than anything we had tried to make on our own. We truly believe God had His hand over this situation.
Jesus is the focus. Everything we do aims to glorify, honor, and give Him praise.
Everything we create has the ultimate goal of pointing toward Christ, and the name GLORY HONOR PRAISE is another layer of that message.
WHY JAPAN
Japan matters to GHP because the people of Japan matter to us.
We first learned how few Japanese people have encountered the Gospel, and that has stayed with us ever since.
It isn't just a statistic to us. It is something we think about and pray about regularly.
During our first trip to Japan, we unexpectedly had the opportunity to go out and evangelize with a church we had attended. That experience deepened what had already been growing in our hearts.
GHP is one way we can use what God has given us to point toward Christ in Japan.
The clothing can carry Scripture into places we may never go.
And we believe GHP can also help support the people already doing the work of sharing the Gospel in Japan.
OUR MISSION
Everything GHP creates begins with Jesus.
We believe clothing can speak, even if you can't. A design can create curiosity. A phrase can start a conversation. Scripture can reach someone who may never expect to encounter it on a shirt.
If clothing can speak, every design should have something worth saying. Our hope is that what we create can point people toward the love, truth, and hope found in Jesus Christ.
That may happen through a conversation. It may simply be through someone seeing Scripture in a language they recognize—or don't recognize—and becoming curious enough to ask why.
OUR COMMITMENT
A portion of every GHP sale will go toward supporting established ministries in Japan.
We hope to partner with a variety of ministries over time—from local churches and missionary organizations to missionary families serving throughout Japan.
Our goal is not simply to give, but to support people who are already faithfully serving and creating opportunities for others to encounter the Gospel.
As GHP grows, we hope for this commitment grows with it.
OUR STANDARD
If clothing can speak, every design should have something worth saying.
We don't want GHP to be Christian messaging place over Japanese characters and a cool graphic.
Every piece should be intentional.
From the meaning behind the design, to the words we choose, the garments we select, and the details that bring everything together.
We would rather be late than release something we're not proud of.
We hope to honor God through having excellence in our work.
If success requires compromising, then we'd rather never sell a single product.
GHP exists to glorify, honor, and praise the Father, Son, and Spirit.
ABOUT THE FOUNDERS
Hi, we're Christian, Maegann, and Felix.
At this point, you know why we made GHP, so here's a little about our family.
In the years since we got married, Maeg and I have both grown a lot as believers. We were baptized together, learned to live in community with other believers, and learned to love and live like Christ.
I asked Felix, our 5 year old, if he wanted to say anything here.
"I want everybody to know Jesus' kindness and that our shirt can help everybody to learn about Jesus and to pray that we can have 7 more babies"😅
Throughout our first trip to Japan, our second trip, and the year in between, God continued to lay the people of Japan on our hearts.
Each of us, even Felix, has been a part of bringing GHP to life. We've shared the long hours, endless revisions, samples that didn't work, and everything else that has gone into making GHP what it is today.
